Cast Announced for “Nuptials for the Dead” Surreal Dreampunk Spectacle
Denver/Boulder area opera singers, dancers and costume designers collaborate on daring show
Oct 6, 2012 (Denver, COLO.) – Luminous Thread is debuting the first show of its Dreampunk season, Nuptials for the Dead, with an all-Colorado cast. This original opera-like work bows in downtown Denver at The Mercury Café at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2012 and then moves to The Oriental Theater on Tennyson and 44th at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, All Souls Day.
The Nuptials cast features professional, classically trained vocalists living in or near Denver. Elizabeth Bell, Craig Blackard, Ruth Brand and Ruth Carver will sing, accompanied on the piano by Peter Roberts. Movement artist Liam LeFey will perform aerial while partnering with ballerina Lisa Orr. Jacinda Espinosa and Ryan Madson will perform bouffon.
The Nuptials design team includes experienced and professionally trained artists from the Denver area: Mary Lin, show design; Dorothy Kohn, costume design and construction; and Liz Baumann and Anna-Liza Armfield, costume and prop design and construction.
Nuptials for the Dead was created by Mary Lin, Artistic Director and Andrew Adams, Music Director, with Ben Sargent serving as Producer.
“In the shows we create, we like to honor forgotten art forms from our past,” said Mary Lin, “like art songs, which are studied by singers in college but rarely performed in contemporary recitals. In the right context, people of all ages understand and are moved by the beauty of music in the Lieder genre — songs from the German Romantic era. The stories are so universal; love, marriage, abandonment, and death. Nuptials for the Dead creates a visually compelling dreamscape to reveal the archetypal narratives in his beautiful music.”
