Works with Inventing Earth, a 501c3 Non-Profit, to Bring Mentoring and Performance Opportunities to Young Professionals in Denver

Denver, Colorado, September 11, 2012 — In a video published today on Kickstarter, a crowdfunding internet site, a new production company reveals three original stage works for its premier season, called “Dreampunk.” Luminous Thread Productions features visual spectacle and a focus on detailed, handcrafted costumes by a team of local artists under the direction of Mary Lin. The company marries the stunning visuals with smart scripts and superb classical musicianship under the musical direction of Andrew Adams. The Dreampunk season consists of three original works that run the gamut from satire and bawdy humor, to horror and haunting images, to a rousing operatic farce in the steampunk style. Tickets range from $15 to $20 and can be purchased online at:

Luminous Thread was created to bring the original works of Mary Lin and Ben Sargent to life. This co-creative couple writes and composes original music and theater works. In the first two shows of the Dreampunk season, original stories interweave existing classical and popular music of earlier times. The third show is a complete opera with original text and music composed by Lin and Sargent.

  • Nuptials for the Dead: opens Sunday 3:00 p.m. October 28 at Mercury Cafe and then shows Thursday 7:30 p.m. November 1 at The Oriental Theater. This eerie and gorgeous spectacle is a Day of the Dead dreamscape accompanied by live performance of 19th century German romantic art songs (lieder). Period-inspired costumes adorn contemporary, ballet, and aerial dancers along with singers other physical performers.
  • End Times at Le Chat Noir: Thursday 7:30 p.m. February 14, 2013 and Saturday 7:30 p.m. February 16 at The Oriental Theater. A witty, seedy, and sentimental satire for Valentine’s Day, this spoken and sung play is set in the final days of the infamous Le Chat Noir cabaret in Paris. Using period music from the turn of the century to Tin Pan Alley, classically trained cabaret singers and a range of dancers and other performers provide a racy, smart, and hilarious evening of music and fun.
  • Queen Victoria’s Floating Garden of Secrets and Natural Wonders: Thursday 7:30 p.m. April 25, 2013 and Saturday 7:30 p.m. April 27. Act One of this original opera premiered in Boston in 2011 and these performances add the breathless conclusion to a rollicking steampunk spectacle. With amazing malfunctioning gizmos, mermaids, pirates in petticoats, and crashing airships, a costume from this show won first place at the Denver County Fair in August. Extra parking will be made available for steampunks arriving in their own airships.

As part of its commitment to working with local performers, Luminous Thread Productions has sponsored a Production Workshop in association with Inventing Earth to provide coaching and development for Denver area creative professionals. Inventing Earth Production Workshops bring together established artists and early career professionals to work in their chosen fields of design, dance, music, and more.
